grandparent’s garden
one of my favorite memories of visiting my grandparents’ house when i was young has to be exploring the garden. it seemed like the most magical place to me. there were trellises of roses climbing along the side of the house with brightly colored flowers and paths of small white gravel winding through bushes of flowers i didn’t know the name to. the air always smelt like rosemary, which is still one of the main bushes my grandfather keeps. mysterious sounds of wild birdsong and quail calling “potato! potato!” in the distance and the humming of bees busily working the day away. A quick scuttering would give away the blue-bellied lizards that we always disturbed from their basks in the warm sunlight, but every time i heard it i wondered if maybe it was one of the fairies that lived in the little fairy house along one of the paths.
i created these four pieces in memory of those visits.
